    Tiny Twirlers Dance Combination Class- 3 – 5 years

    This fun and exciting class introduces little dancers to beginning ballet, jazz/contemporary, and tap technique as well as incorporating creative movement and music appreciation games to form well rounded young dancers. Dancers will keep their interest sparked through different genres of dance, all gauged specifically for growing minds and bodies. This class meets weekly for the KDA season, 30 minutes per class.

Designed specifically to inspire young dancers and launch them into the KDA Pre-professional Division, this class introduces dancers to beginning dance training and performance with a hefty dose of FUN! Balancing creative movement and music appreciation games with solid dance knowledge, this dance is perfect for the burgeoning ballerina in your life.

    Made for those born to move to the rhythm, this class provides a healthy and solid introduction to Tap, Acro, and Hip Hop integral to KDA’s Pre-professional Division. Perfect for the dancer who needs some excitement in a standalone class, or the dancer interested in it all as a package class!

    Beginning Package

    Introduce your young dancer to all that KDA has to offer. Get a $15 discount on both the Beginning Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary Combination Class and the Beginning Tap, Acro, and Hip Hop Class, thoughtfully paired as back-to-back classes to cut down on travel time and scheduling conflicts.

    Special Needs Dance Combination Class- 3 years and up

    A KDA exclusive class! This class is specifically for differently abled dancers that may need extra modifications during dance class. Dancers will be guided gently through basic dance technique, with special focus on creative movement, rhythm, and mind-body connection through movement sensations. Caretakers and/or parents welcome. For specific questions or concerns about your dancer’s abilities and needs, contact us today!

    Adult Hip Hop- ages 18+

    Want to join in? A Hip-Hop class specifically for adults. Perfect for dance parents wishing to learn more about their dancers’ art, former dancers missing the movement and joy dance brings into their life, and adults who are looking for a new and fun way to get their daily workout in! No experience necessary, and no performances are required.

    Time: Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 pm

    Price: $50/month

    Attire: Dancers may follow the Pre-Professional Division Ballet dress code of leotard of any color, pink tights, and ballet shoes (female identifying dancers) and tee shirt of any color, black athletic pants or shorts, white socks, and black ballet shoes (male identifying dancers). Dancers may also choose athletic wear with free range of motion and socks/ballet shoes. It is recommended that all dancers secure their hair away from their face during dance classes.

    Ballet

    Ballet- Dancing in which conventional poses and steps are combined with light flowing figures (such as leaps and turns). Ballet is the building block for all other dance forms popularly performed today, including (but not limited to) Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, and Hip Hop. Solid Ballet training is essential to becoming a well-rounded dancer in any genre of dance.

     

    Ballet I

    Ballet I is the foundation of our Pre-Professional Ballet Division. Dancers ages 8 and above will learn the proper technique to build a long and joyful ballet career on. Dancers will be guided through a full ballet class, with specific emphasis on terminology, body alignment and placement, classroom etiquette, as well as artistic expression and performance quality. Each class will begin at the barre for classical ballet combinations, move into the center for traveling combinations, and incorporate healthy and age appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises. Ballet I meets once a week for a one hour Ballet Technique class.

    Time: Mondays 5:00-6:00 pm

    Ballet II

    Ballet II is the continuation of our concepts established in Ballet I of our Pre-Professional Ballet Division. Ballet II dancers begin learning more complicated and demanding steps throughout the class, with emphasis on retention of steps, coordination of whole body movement, and more intricate pieces for performance. Ballet II dancers are also introduced to more advanced stretching and strengthening exercises. Ballet II meets twice a week for one hour Ballet Technique classes.

    Time: Mondays 6:00-7:00 pm AND Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 pm

    Ballet III

    Ballet III is our Beginning Pointe level of our Pre-Professional Ballet Division. Ballet III is also where most beginning or less experienced teen dancers join our program. This level is specifically designed to launch dancers into the next phase of their training- that means beginning pointework for ladies and beginning partnering/endurance training for gentlemen. Ballet III is also encouraged to begin auditioning for summer intensives and other dance education opportunities to gain a better understanding of the ballet world as a whole, and to challenge themselves in new classes with new teachers. Ballet III meets three times a week for an hour per class- twice for a Ballet Technique class, and once for a Pre-Pointe/Beginning Pointe class.

    Time: Mondays 7:00-8:00 pm AND Tuesdays 7:00-8:00 pm AND Wednesdays 5:00-6:00 pm

    Ballet IV

    Ballet IV is our first level expected to appear en pointe for all KDA sponsored performances. Level IV places a great deal of emphasis on clean, strong technique paired with performance quality, working specifically with upper level dancers to have a clear picture of attainable goals for both technique and artistry. Level IV is encouraged to audition for summer intensives and other educational dance opportunities both in Central Kentucky and the United States at large.  Level IV dancers will be challenged in four weekly classes, three Ballet Technique and one Pointe class.

    Time: Mondays 7:00-8:00pm AND Tuesdays 5:00-7:00pm AND Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm AND Saturdays 11:30am-1:00pm

    Ballet V

    Ballet V is a continuation of the concepts and technical abilities established in the lower levels of KDA’s Pre-Professional Division. Level V is striving to launch dancers into Level VI of KDA as well as encouraging dancers to audition for summer intensives and other dance education opportunities, blending a technical exercises with more connection of mind and body through classical ballet technique. Level V dancers are expected to perform demanding roles in KDA performances, along with continuing their dance education through four classes per week- two Ballet Technique and two Pointe classes.

    Time: Mondays 8:00-9:00pm AND Tuesdays 5:00-7:00pm AND Wednesday 7:00-8:00pm AND Saturdays 11:30am-1:00pm

    Ballet VI

    Ballet VI is the top level of the KDA Pre-Professional Division. Level VI is kept purposefully small to ensure adequate attention and one-on-one coaching in each class. Level VI Ballet’s goal is to ready dancers to audition for college programs or dance programs after high school through rigorous technical exercises, conditioning, comprehensive understanding of classical vocabulary and combination structure, and performance quality. Level VI dancers are the representatives of KDA at community events and are expected to perform principal and soloist roles in all KDA sponsored performances. Ballet VI consists of four classes per week- two Ballet Technique and two Pointe.

    Contemporary

    Contemporary Dance: Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance is the youngest of the dance genres, and quickly becoming one of the most popular dance styles in the US and Europe.

    Contemporary I-II

    Contemporary I-II is the perfect place for young pre-professional dancers to learn the basic structure of Contemporary dance. Drawing from our instructors’ time spent as working dancers in professional companies, our curriculum draws on Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Lyrical genres to strike the perfect balance of technique and emotion. Dancers will be focused on versatility of placement (turned out v. neutral), vocabulary, basic technique, and improvisational technique. Contemporary I-III is a weekly class of one hour, and is recommended to all Ballet I-II students.

    Time: Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 pm

    Contemporary V-VI is the highest level of Contemporary dance offered once a week at KDA. Dancers will be well versed in contemporary technique, improvisational dance technique, contemporary choreography and class structure. Dancers are aiming to be prepared to participate in college dance or other post-high school contemporary programs by the end of their training with KDA. Dancers are strongly encouraged to participate in KDA’s ballet classes as a complementary class to Contemporary V-VI as there is a large amount of crossover between the two disciplines at higher levels. Contemporary V-VI is a one hour, once weekly class.

    Advanced Contemporary Training is a special invitation only class available to the top level Contemporary dancers looking for an additional day of training to deepen and expand their knowledge and experience of Contemporary dance. With an additional hour of varied training to strengthen, engage, and challenge dancers, this is a great stepping stone for top level Contemporary dancers to transition into professional companies and college dance programs.

    Time: Wednesdays 5:00-6:00 pm

    Tap

    Tap Dance : A step dance tapped out audibly by means of shoes with hard soles or soles and heels to which taps have been added. Tap is a style of dance popularized in the 1920’s, and is still imperative to any working performer on Broadway today. Tap as it is performed today blends steps from Jazz, Ballet, Modern, and Musical Theater to be an audience favorite around the world.

    Tap I-III

    Tap is a fun and engaging dance style integral to developing a dancer’s sense of timing, rhythm, and musicality. Based on our instructors’ years of training and love for tap dance, this class introduces younger pre-professional dancers to basic tap vocabulary, technique, and foundational steps to be built upon at the higher KDA levels. All dancers are encouraged to include Tap in their schedules to hone their rhythmic understanding of dance.

    At the higher levels of Tap at KDA, dancers will be challenged by new and more complex tap steps, musicality, and rhythmic combinations. Based on our instructors’ deep knowledge and love for all genres of tap dancing, dancers will be prepared for entrance into college dance programs, musical theatre college programs and companies, and auditions for professional performances and plays.

    Jazz

    Students will be able to recognize, identify, and demonstrate the technique and movement elements fundamental to Jazz dance. (Ex: Body placement, strength, coordination, flexibility, rhythm, sequencing and style.)

    They will be able to develop and understand a working vocabulary and movement repetoirè in Jazz technique through warm ups, across the floor progressions and learned combinations.

    *Students in all levels will learn various styles of Jazz (Ex: Street, Musical Theater, Commercial and Old School) in the styles of many great choreographers from the Golden Ages such as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Gene Kelly, and Michael Jackson to contemporary choreographers such as Nick Lazzarini, Tyce Diorio, Kent Boyd and Jackie Sleight.*

    Musical Theatre

    Musical Theatre- Art form combining written dialogue, lyrical music, instrumental music, and dance to form a cohesive narrative. Musical theatre dance is an intersection of jazz, tap, ballroom, and even hip hop.

    Musical Theatre I-VI

    Musical Theatre is a class specifically designed to help our Pre-Professional dancers become well rounded and knowledgeable about musical productions and the demands of dancers in theatrical productions. With training in high heeled shoes, and repertory work from classic productions, Musical Theatre is sure to be a popular class for performers in Levels I-VI. Recommended to all dancers interested in pursing performance opportunities in local theatre or college as well as all dancers enrolled in Jazz classes.

    Time: Thursdays 6:30-7:30 pm

    Attire: Girls: Black leotard and black bottoms (shorts, tights, jazz pants, or leggings). Black character shoes.  All Level IV-VI dancers need warm-ups (jackets, hoodies, sweatpants, etc.)

    Boys: Black tee shirt or tank, black bottoms (shorts, tights, jazz pants, or leggings). Black jazz shoes.  All Level IV-VI dancers need warm-ups (jackets, hoodies, sweatpants, etc.)

    Acro

    Acro- A style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.

    Beginning/Intermediate Acro ages 8-11

    Designed with the beginning acro student in mind, Beginning/Intermediate Acro ages 8-11 introduces basic gymnastic concepts in conjunction with basic dance training. Pre-Professional Division students with experience in Youth Division Acro, or no former acro training, are encouraged to start in this Pre-Professional Division class.

    Time: Mondays 7:00-8:00 pm

    Attire: Girls: Leotard of any color (no attached skirts permitted), transition tights of any color, bare legs, or booty shorts/leggings, bare feet. Dancers may not wear loose fitting clothing over their dress code as it is unsafe for instructors to spot them during acrobatic moves. Absolutely no dangly earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or rings as this can be distracting or dangerous during class.

    Boys: Solid color and tight fitting tee shirt or tank top, solid color men’s tights, tight fitting shorts, or tight fitting athletic pants. Bare feet. Absolutely no dangly earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or rings as this can be distracting or dangerous during class.

    Intermediate/Advanced Acro ages 8-11

    Designed with the accomplished acro student in mind, Intermediate/Advanced Acro ages 8-11 introduces more challenging gymnastic concepts in conjunction with dance training. Pre-Professional Division students with experience in Pre-Professional Division Acro, or prior competitive gymnastics training, may be encouraged to enroll in this class. 

    Time: Mondays 5:00-6:00 pm

    The perfect class for older Pre-Professional students interested in improving their other dance disciplines. As Pre-Professional students progress and excel in Contemporary, Jazz, and Musical Theatre classes an Acro class can provide them with additional training to benefit all their dance styles. Recommended to Pre-Professional students of all prior training.

    Time: Mondays 6:00-7:00 pm

    Hip Hop

    Hip Hop dance is street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It encompasses a wide range of styles from the 1970’s to today, and is generally used by dance teams, competitive dancers, musical theatre dancers, and contemporary dancers.

    Hip Hop I-III

    The perfect, high energy class for dancers ready to move! Combining popular music of today with sharp movements and complex combinations, this class is the perfect complement to any dance styles in the Pre-Professional Division. Strongly recommended to all dancers enrolled in Jazz and Musical Theatre classes.

    Time: Wednesdays 5:00-6:00 pm

    Attire: Girls and Boys: Athletic clothes with full range of motion, sneakers (that are not worn outside to keep the dance floor clean).

    All dancers with hair below chin level must have hair secured in a bun or ponytail.

    Hip Hop IV-VI
